PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent application of unnecessary voltage to a dummy terminal not connected to a scanning line and to suppress occurrence of noise. SOLUTION: In the control method of a liquid crystal panel 1 as a display element, the gate terminal Xa257 of a gate driver 26a is fixed to an off-voltage of a TFT during forward scanning; and the gate terminal Xb0 of a gate driver 26b is fixed to an off-voltage of the TFT during backward scanning. This prevents application of unnecessary voltage to the gate terminal Xa257 and the gate terminal Xb0 not connected to a scanning line, and suppresses ripples and occurrence of noise caused by ripples.
