摘要 A method of combustion that is applied to a water tube boiler, a regenerator of absorption type refrigerator, etc. The method comprises the concentration ratio regulating step of regulating the concentration ratios of nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and oxygen in the gas from a gas generation source to reference given concentration ratios and the hazardous substance reducing step of reducing nitrogen oxide with the use of an oxidation catalyst capable of, providing that the concentration ratios on the primary side are reference concentration ratios, substantially zeroing the nitrogen oxide concentration and carbon monoxide concentration on the secondary side. In the concentration ratio regulating step, the oxygen concentration on the secondary side of the oxidation catalyst is detected, and the concentration ratios are controlled so that the detected oxygen concentration becomes substantially the preset oxygen concentration close to zero. In this combustion method, the emission rate of nitrogen oxide can be reduced to be infinitely close to zero, and the emission rate of carbon monoxide can be reduced so as to fall within the allowable limits. Further, the control of concentration ratios can be stably carried on through detection of the oxygen concentration.
