The invention relates to a method for operating an oxygen sensor for sensing the oxygen content in a gas flow that is conducted to an internal combustion engine by means of an intake tract, wherein the oxygen sensor comprises at least one first electrode and at least one second electrode, wherein the first electrode and the second electrode are separated from each other by a solid electrolyte and the second electrode is separated from the gas flow by a diffusion barrier and wherein the oxygen sensor comprises a heating element, which heats the solid electrolyte in such a way that oxygen ion transport from the first electrode to the second electrode through the solid electrolyte can occur. The problem addressed by the invention is that of specifying a method for operating an oxygen sensor by means of which, even in a gas mixture having a fraction of combustible gases, accurate measurement results for the oxygen content in the gas mixture are achieved. This problem is solved in that the heating element heats the solid electrolyte to a temperature between 350 °C and 430 °C. |
