Provided is an optical receptacle equipped with: a fiber stub including an optical fiber having a core and a cladding, a ferrule having a through-hole, and an elastic member for affixing the optical fiber to the ferrule; and a retainer for retaining the fiber stub. The optical fiber has a first section in which the core diameter is small and the refractive index differential of the core and the cladding is large, a third section in which the core diameter is large and the refractive index differential of the core and the cladding is small, and a second section in which the core diameter transitions from the diameter in the first section to the diameter in the second section, and the refractive index differential of the core and the cladding transitions between one equal to or less than the refractive index differential of the first section and one equal to or greater than the refractive index differential of the third section. The elastic member is packed into a space between the optical fiber and the inner wall of the through-hole.
