<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a series hybrid vehicle adapted to obtain a stepped shift state and a continuous shift state, capable of improving drive feeling without giving a sense of discomfort to an occupant at the time of speed change in the stepped shift state. <P>SOLUTION: A speed change control line Z shown by a broken line, in which engine speed is changed at a stretch is set between a point "X" that is a current operating point of an engine and a target point "Y". The load torque of a generator is controlled so as to trace the speed change control line X.
