摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical deflector and a light source device having a narrow-controlled emitted light distribution and capable of increasing the ratio of utilization of the amount of light from the primary light source and the image quality by using a simplified configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The light source device comprises a primary light source 1, a light guide 3 having a light input face 31 and light emitting face 33, and an optical deflector 4. The optical deflector 4 has a light input face 41 and a light output face 42. The light input face 41 has a plurality of parallel-disposed prisms each of which has two faces. One of the two prism faces is a non-single planar face. The vertex split angle &alpha;of one of the prism faces is 2-25 degrees and the vertex split angle &beta; of the other face is 33-40 degrees. The difference (¾&alpha;-&beta;¾) between the vertex split angles &alpha; and &beta; is 8-35 degrees. The relationship of the prism column pitch P and the length L2 of a virtual straight line connecting the summit and valley of prism faces of the vertex split angle &beta; constituting the prism column when viewed in the cross-section is expressed by L2/P=1.16-1.6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
