PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defective pixel detecting method for reducing a time necessary for detecting a defective pixel. SOLUTION: By using image data photographed by CCD 20, pixel data outputted from a prescribed pixel (central pixel) of the CCD and pixel data outputted from two or more neighboring pixels located around the center pixel are extracted and each maximum value, each mean value, and each minimum value of these image data are calculated. By considering to which value each of pixel data approximates in comparison with each other, the center pixel and the neighboring pixels are classified into three groups, namely a maximum value group, a mean value group, and a minimum value group. If the central pixel belongs to the maximum value group, it is determined whether the central pixel is a defective pixel or not based on the group, to which the neighboring pixels belong, and the number of pixels, which is included in this group.
