A method for preparing an extract of buckwheat flower-leaf mixture is provided to obtain the extract having the anti-diabetic activity and diabetes improving capability, thereby being utilized as raw materials of functional foods and health foods. A method for preparing an extract of buckwheat flower-leaf mixture comprises the steps of: (a) extracting the buckwheat flower-leaf mixture with ethanol or 30-100% of a fermented alcohol at a temperature of 40-80 deg.C for 6-12 hours for one or two times; (b) after filtering and/or centrifuging the extract, concentrating it; and (c) drying the concentrate under reduced pressure at a temperature of 55-70 deg.C for 6-12 hours or freeze-drying it. An extract, a concentrate thereof or a dried material of the extract is formulated into a product such as powder, granule, tablet, capsule, pill, liquid, suspension and syrup. A functional food comprises the extract, the concentrate and the dried material of the extract of the buckwheat leaves and is added to general processed products such as tea-bag teas and noodles.
