PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high quality and stable display by effectively using a frame interval. SOLUTION: Temperature of the panel surface corresponding to a cell is measured and pulse widths of pulses Prx, Pry1 and Pry2 for initialization are changed in two stages in accordance with the temperature variation. When the temperature of the panel surface is low, pulses PrxL, Pry1L and Pry2L having relatively long pulse widths W1L and W2L are applied. When the temperature of the panel surface is high, pulses PrxH, Pry1H and Pry2H having relatively short pulse widths W1H and W2H are applied.
