PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for utilizing pattern information that is set and read in consideration of an encoding unit of a hierarchical structure and a data unit.SOLUTION: A video encoding method includes: dividing a picture into encoding units of predetermined maximum size; performing encoding accompanied by conversion on the basis of a conversion unit for each depth-dependent encoding unit by a region obtained by dividing and reducing the maximum encoding unit hierarchically to each maximum encoding unit; determining an encoding mode including information on encoding depth and size of a conversion unit for outputting encoding result; and outputting pattern information indicating whether or not encoding of texture related information is performed, information on an encoding mode, and encoded video data on the basis of a hierarchical structure of the maximum encoding unit by the encoding mode, the encoding unit, and the conversion unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
