ENCRYPTION UNIT, AND PORTABLE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of improving security in various portable devices while suppressing cost increase as much as possible.

SOLUTION: In an encryption unit 100, a random number generator 37 generates a random number. A microcomputer 43 includes an encryption function for encrypting data and a decryption function for decoding data using an encryption key formed based on the random number generated by the random number generator 37. A USB (Universal Serial Bus) plug 31 is connected to a computer machine for transmitting and receiving data in an attachment and detachment enable fashion. A USB connector 38 is connected in an attachment and detachment enable fashion to a first option unit chosen from a plurality of kinds of option units, which can add a function different from the encryption unit 100 by connecting with the encryption unit 100. The microcomputer 43 directs an encryption/decryption means to encrypt data inputted from the computer machine connected to the USB plug 31.
