The present invention relates to methods for testing the presence of protective antigen- induced memory CD8+ T cells and uses thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for testing the presence of at least one population of protective antigen-induced memory CD8+ T cells in a sample obtained from a subject comprising the steps of i) incubating the sample obtained from the subject with the antigen for which the presence of the antigen-induced memory CD8+ T cells is sought ii) determining the secretion level of at least one cytokine selected from the group consisting of GM-CSF, CCL1 and CCL9 iii) comparing the secretion level determined at step ii) with its corresponding predetermined reference value and iv) concluding that the population of protective antigen-induced memory CD8+ T cells is present in the sample when a difference between the secretion level determined at step ii) with the predetermined reference value is determined.
