The invention relates to a device for processing value documents (12), in particular bank notes. Said device comprises: an inspection unit (52) for inspecting at least one characteristic of a value document (12) according to at least one predefined criterion, in particular an authenticity criterion, with a sensor unit for detecting the characteristic, located in a processing area (28); and a storage area housing (56) which encompasses a storage area, in which value documents (12) that have been identified as authentic by the inspection unit (52) according to the criterion can be stored and protected against unauthorised access. The storage area housing has a first opening (54; 88), through which value documents (12) from the processing area (28) can be transported to the storage area. The device also comprises a transport unit (42) in the processing area (28) for individually transporting value documents (12) that have been supplied to the device, along a transport path (48) from a feed unit for individually feeding value documents (12) or from a separator to the inspection unit (52) and then to the storage area, and a processing area cover (32; 128) with a cover element (36; 128) that can be displaced back and forth between a closed position, in which the processing area (28) is covered by the processing area cover (32; 128) and an open position, which provides access for an operator to the transport path (48) from the feed unit or separator to the inspection unit (52) and then to the storage area. |
