PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar waveguide element using an optical Bloch oscillation to reduce crosstalk of demultiplexing. SOLUTION: The planar waveguide element is composed of a waveguide array in which the effective refractive index of the waveguides successively increases. The incident light which is made incident on the plurality of waveguides in the waveguide array is adjusted so that the phase difference between adjacent waveguides is -π/8 or smaller orπ/8 or larger.
