The axle (11), comprising a central shaft (21) with two wheels (9) and bearings (22), differs by having a reinforcing cross-member (23) that provides the axle with rigidity and connects the two bearings. The cross-member is positioned below the level of the shaft, which is between 60 and 140 mm in diameter, and has a cross-section at least equal to that of the shaft. The axle forms part of a bogie with a chassis (5) supporting a carriage (20) with different floor levels (31).
