PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electromagnetic wave shielding material for sufficiently shielding electromagnetic waves and ensuring a low price and high productivity, and also to provide the electromagnetic wave shielding material that can be obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the electromagnetic wave shielding material includes a pattern forming step for forming a pattern by printing on the front surface of a base material constituted of a silane coupling agent having an NH group or an NH<SB>2</SB>group, an optical-hardening compound and/or a thermosetting compound and an optical-hardening resin compound and/or a thermosetting resin compound containing an optical-hardening agent and/or a thermosetting agent, a pattern hardening step for hardening the pattern by irradiating the pattern with light and/or by heating the pattern, and a lower material plating step for forming a lower material plating layer by making a lower material plating metal salt solution adhere on the front surface of the pattern.
