PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow ISP to appropriately process large amounts of mail. SOLUTION: A mail processing system has a first and a second mail servers, and a common mailbox which can be accessed from the first and second mail servers. If mail transmission requests to a specified number or more of addresses from a third mail server are received, the first mail server outputs address and mail text data which are related to the mail transmission requests to the second mail server. The second mail server responses to the address and mail text data and stores the mail data into each address area in the common mailbox. Consequently, mail servers are divided into two systems, the first mail server processes normal mail which is not determined as large amounts of mail, and the second mail server stores the large amounts of mail into the common mailbox.
