PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording and playback device capable of informing of the need to replace the optical disk or recommending its replacement. SOLUTION: When a writing error of control information for managing a title is detected at the end of title recording in the optical disk, a sector is shifted, control information is created again, and writing of the control information is tried again. Even if the number of retrying times exceeds the predetermined maximum number of retrying times, when the control information is not normally written in the sector, an error message is displayed in a display means. When the number of retrying times is equal to the maximum number of retrying times at most, and the control information is normally written in the sector, a warning message indicating bad disk quality is displayed in the display means.
