In the method, a quantity, which is adjusted to the sample volume, of highly hygroscopic solid body particles, such as superabsorbent polymer plastic particles known as "superabsorbers", which increase in size by swelling up due at least to absorption of the free water is added in an order of magnitude of typically 10 to 100 µm, to a sample of the liquid which is to be tested at least for the water and is mixed intensively by movement with any free water contained therein, and the sample is again intensively mixed by movement; after a reasonable reaction time, the sample is conducted through the measurement duct of a measurement unit, such as a commercially available, laser-based, optical particle measurement and counting unit which operates according to the light shadowing principle, and in the process the size of the individual swollen solid body particles and also where appropriate the number thereof are measured using the extent of the light shadowing caused by same, and at least the content of free water in the sample is determined therefrom by means of a measurement value evaluation unit and e.g. indicated and/or printed out e.g. as a numerical value. |
