ROTARY ENCODER

This rotary encoder is provided with: a shaft; an encoder mechanism which holds the shaft in an inserted state such that the shaft can rotate and move vertically, and which detects the rotation direction and the rotational angle of the shaft; and a switch mechanism which is pressed by an end of the shaft inserted through the encoder mechanism. The encoder mechanism is provided with: a rotor which is attached to the shaft so as to be capable of rotating integrally with the shaft; a slider which is attached to the rotor; and a fixed contact member along which the slider slides. The encoder mechanism and the switch mechanism are disposed such that the slider is positioned further towards the switch mechanism side than the fixed contact member.
