PURPOSE: A background color selection circuit in PDP-TV selects a left or right background color when displaying a video data of a general screen size on wide screen TV. CONSTITUTION: A PDP TV system performs a digital processing about a composite video signal, rearranges it at wait, record it to a memory, and displays the rearranged digital video data on PDP panel through a data interface part. The PDP TV system includes a first counter(500) for receiving a horizontal synchronization signal and a basic clock, and generating 107 read clocks. A second counter(502) receives 107 read clocks and wide screen mode selection signal as an input, outputs 107 read clocks as a final read clock in case of a wide screen size, outputs 80 read clocks as a final read clock in case of a general screen size, and generates a blank pulse. A read address generator(504) receives a final read clock from the second counter, and outputs a read address storing the video data to be read. A memory part(506) generates a video data stored in the read address. A multiplexer(508) receives the video data of the memory, a blank pulse and background color selection signal, outputs a video data to a data interface part in a period wherein the blank pulse is not activated, and outputs a data corresponding to a background color selection signal to the data interface part in a period wherein the blank pulse is activated. Thereby, the user freely selects a background color of right/left blank period when displaying a video data of a general screen size of 4:3 aspect ratio by using a wide screen PDP-TV of 16:9 aspect ratio.
