PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a thermomagnetic transfer type perpendicular magnetic recording medium having super high recording density and excellent thermal demagnetization resistance. SOLUTION: A thermomagnetic transfer type perpendicular magnetic recording system is disclosed which is characterized in that to a recording medium having an intermediate layer between a first recording layer formed by using a low noise Co based alloy ferromagnetic material and a second recording layer formed by using a ferrimagnetic material (e.g. a rare earth-transition metal compound) having a compensation temperature equal to or lower than operation environmental temperature, a magnetic field is applied to form a magnetization pattern in the first recording layer and then temperature is raised by using a heating means to transfer the magnetization pattern to the second recording layer. The second recording layer has coercive force higher than that of the first recording layer under environmental temperature condition and the magnetization pattern can be formed only in the first recording layer by appropriately setting a recording magnetic field. When heating is performed, the magnetization pattern is transferred from the first recording layer to the second recording layer since the second recording layer has coercive force lower than that of the first recording layer.
