PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in image quality in retouching where an image processing to treat image data as 16-bit gradation coexists with an image processing to treat the image data as 8-bit gradation. SOLUTION: Layers 1, 2 are formed upward from a lower part in this order with respect to input image data. When the layers are synthesized with the input image data, synthesis is performed by overlapping in order from the lower part to an upper part. When the image processing which is designated by clicking is the one corresponding to 16-bit color, the image processing is directly performed to the input image data. When the image processing corresponds to 8-bit color, the image processing is performed to the layers 1, 2. Consequently, the image processings corresponding to 16-bit color are collectively performed at first. Then the image processings corresponding to 8-bit color are performed with the layers 1, 2.
