An illuminating device (40) lights up the surroundings of a distal catheter section with electromagnetic radiation. An image-capture device (60) takes a picture of the electromagnetic radiation reflected from the surroundings of the distal catheter section and delivers it to the proximal end of a catheter (10). An image-reproducing device (62) linked to the proximal end of the catheter reproduces a picture of the captured electromagnetic radiation.
