The method involves supplying exhaust gas from a drier (1) to a thermal after combustion system (9) over an exhaust gas blower. Hot cleaning gas is guided from the after combustion system to a cleaning gas pipeline (24c) through the drier and to a fresh air recuperator (14) for heating fresh air supplied to the drier in an inlet water gate (2) and an outlet water gate (5) of drying objects. The fresh air is guided through an annular gap (22) enclosed between an outer part and an external housing of the after combustion system before entering into the fresh air recuperator. An independent claim is also included for a device for drying a painted object comprising a thermal after combustion system with an inner annular gap enclosed by an inner housing.
