PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo canceller whereby both parties can make a pleasant speech wherein howling is hardly generated even when both the parities make a hands-free speech. SOLUTION: An estimate arithmetic section 108 estimates an impulse response of an echo path of its own terminal. An HJ register 102 stores an estimate value by the estimate arithmetic section 108. An HM register 103 stores the estimate value outputted from the HJ register 102. A first subtraction section 106 subtracts an arithmetic result of a convolution arithmetic section 104 for carrying out convolution by using the estimate value of the HM register from an input signal. A first attenuation section 112 attenuates a subtraction result of the first subtraction section 106 in a state of howling by using a gain gs less than 1. A second arithmetic section 107 subtracts the arithmetic result at a convolution arithmetic section 105 on the basis of the attenuation result of the first attenuation section 112.
