High accuracy of measuring thickness is ensured by idle rolls bending strip at inlet and outlet zone from measurement zone, where in measurement zone length of unretained strip section is limited by distance between axis of roller of end of bending strip at inlet of measurement zone and axis of roller of beginning of bending of strip at outlet of said zone and in measurement zone strip tension is provided, equal to force overcoming deformation resistance of bending of strip at inlet of measurement zone.EFFECT: method involves horizontal movement of strip in zone of measuring its thickness by drawing and limitation of its vertical movement by means of idle rollers located before and after measurement zone.1 cl, 3 dwg
