This invention provides a gas oil composition for use in superchargers having a geometric compression ratio of more than 16 and diesel engines with EGR. The gas oil composition is an FT synthetic base material-containing gas oil composition for a summer or winter season suitable for both diesel combustion and premixing compression ignition combustion. The gas oil composition has a sulfur content of not more than 5 ppm by mass, an oxygen content of not more than 100 ppm by mass, a volume modulus of not less than 1250 MPa and not more than 1450 MPa, a saybolt color of not less than +22, a lubricating property value of not more than 400 [mu]m, and distillation characteristics of 140 DEG C or above for the initial boiling point and 380 DEG C or below for the end point, and is characterized in that (1) the cetane number in a fraction range below 200 DEG C is not less than 20 and less than 40, (2) the cetane number in a fraction range of 200 DEG C or above and below 280 DEG C is not less than 30 and less than 60, and (3) the cetane number in a fraction range of 280 DEG C or above is not less than 50. |
