PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of solving a problem that exposure loss and luminance loss become large to make resolution low and display luminance efficiency low because light source light is separated to RGB by using a color separation means such as a primary color system (RGB) color filter. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a light source 10, the color separation means (YMC filters) 18Y, 18M and 18C color-separating the light source light to complementary color components, liquid crystal display elements 20Y, 20M and 20C modulating the light of respective separated colors, a condensing lens 12 condensing the modulated light of the respective color components, and a projection lens 15 projecting the synthetic image of the respective color components to a screen 14.
