PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector including a pair of first electrodes and a pair of second electrodes, in which the deterioration of detection precision of liquid level can be prevented by suppressing the generation of electrostatic capacity in a pair of lead parts connected to the first electrodes without extending the electrode arrangement area. SOLUTION: In an oil level detector 1, a ground electrode is not preliminarily provided in a region nipped by the pair of first lead parts 19, but a second electrode switching circuit 61 is driven, at the time of measuring the electrostatic capacity between the first electrodes 17, to connect the pair of second electrodes 13 nipped by the first lead parts 19 to a ground line, whereby the second electrodes 13 are formed as the ground electrode. According to this, the second electrodes 13 which generally function as sensor electrodes can act as the ground electrodes to prevent generation of electrostatic capacity between the first lead parts 19. Therefore, when the electrostatic capacity between the first electrodes 17 is detected, the electrostatic capacity of the first read parts 19 can be prevented from badly affecting, as floating capacity, on the detection precision.
