PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage collection vehicle capable of preventing intrusion of a foreign matter into a side cover fixed to a side wall of a garbage throwing box and certainly preventing erroneous operation of a sensor arranged in the side cover. SOLUTION: The garbage collection vehicle 1 is provided with a loading device 50 for performing loading action of the garbage thrown from a throwing port 3a in the garbage throwing box 3; an opening/closing lid 3b for opening/closing the throwing port 3a; an opening/closing arm having an upper end pivotally supported on a rear part of the garbage throwing box and a lower end pivotally supported on an upper part of the opening/closing lid 3b; and a detection means fixed to the side wall of the garbage throwing box 3 and detecting an operation position of the loading device 50 in order to control the operation of the loading device 50. A side cover covering the detection means is fixed to the side wall of the garbage throwing box 3 and at opening/closing of the opening/closing lid 3b, the opening/closing arm can be turned at an inner side of both side walls of the garbage throwing box 3.
