A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce a dynamic false contour noise in moving images by using a group error diffusion scheme. A plasma display apparatus includes an A/D converter(300), an inverse gamma compensating unit(310), a group error diffusion unit(320), and a sub-field mapping unit(330). The A/D converter converts an image signal from outside into a digital signal. The inverse gamma compensating unit compensates for the image signal from the A/D converter using an inverse compensation scheme. When a false contour noise is generated from the compensated image signal, the group error diffusion unit diffuses grayscale of the compensated image signal to a 2X2 group so as to reduce the false contour noise. The sub-field mapping unit maps the diffused grayscale on a mapping table.
