A color display device is provided to reduce an irregular alignment of liquid crystals and light leakage and improve a contrast ratio and color reproducibility by improving the degree of planarization of a plurality of planarizing layers formed on color layers and light shielding layers of a color filter substrate. A light shielding layer(12) has a lattice portion formed in a lattice pattern. Color layers(16R,16G,16B) having a plurality of colors are formed to overlap the light shielding layer. A planarizing layer(14) is formed to cover the light shielding layer and the color layers. The color layers are divided into a form corresponding to the lattice pattern of the light shielding layer. Edges of the divided color layers partially overlap the light shielding layer. The edges are separated from each other to form intervals therebetween. The planarizing layer is formed on the light shielding layer so as to fill the intervals.
