A Fuel Filler Closure Device for a Vehicle

A fuel filler closure device 10 for an automotive vehicle is disclosed that includes a valve body 18 adapted for mounting to a fuel filler pipe 14 and having a filler passage. An access door 26 mounted within the valve body 18 has an open position allowing placement of a fuel nozzle within the filler passage and a closed position for blocking insertion of a filler nozzle. A locking mechanism 30 selectively permits the access door 26 to move from the closed position to the open position. A second sealed door 34 may also be provided, the sealed door 34 being opened when the filler nozzle is inserted.
