PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission/reception system and transmission/reception method, in which the reception side appropriately handles dynamic change in a distribution content to perform correct stream reception.SOLUTION: A transmitter transmits a container having a predetermined format including a video stream obtained by switching a first period including a basic video stream and an extension video stream and a second period including only a basic video stream. The same PID is set to the basic video streams in the first and second periods; a PID differing from the PID in the basic video stream in the first period is set to the extension video stream in the first period. Into a layer of the container, is inserted a descriptor including identification information showing that each of the basic video stream and extension video stream in the first period is a stream having scalability in the time direction; with regard to the basic video stream in the second period, no descriptor is inserted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 13 |
