A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to decrease a length of a sub-field by performing a sustain discharge during a portion of an address period. A plasma display panel includes plural row and column electrodes and plural discharge cells. A controller(200) classifies the row and column electrodes into at least first and second groups. For the respective sub-fields, drivers(300,400,500) sequentially apply scan pulses to the first electrodes in the first group during a first address period and then apply sustain discharge pulses to the first and second electrodes in the second group. The controller determines a period of the sustain discharge pulses according to a weight of the sub-fields. A period of the scan pulse is determined according to the period of the sustain discharge pulse.
