A method for playing and displaying music of a mobile terminal and an apparatus using the same are provided to enhance user convenience by displaying a playing process bar indicating a music playing state and a sound volume control bar in a cross manner. In a standby mode of a mobile terminal, a controller checks whether or not a music playing mode is selected(S201,S203). When the music playing mode is selected is a tactile manner by a user, the controller displays a standby screen image of the music playing mode(S205). The controller checks whether music is selected(S207). When music is selected, the controller plays the selected music and displays a playing progress bar and a volume control bar(S209). The controller checks whether a screen is contacted(S211). When the screen is contacted, the controller performs a corresponding function(S213).
