A manually operated gate valve has a mechanism that reduces the actuation force and minimizes the number of handwheel turns required. The apparatus includes a valve body 105, bonnet 145, gate 120, valve stem 135, ball screw arrangement 140, gear reducer arrangement 175 and handwheel 185. Rotational force applied to the handwheel is converted by the gear reducer and ball screw arrangement into linear force applied to the valve stem and then to the gate. |
