A system for communicating between a surface facility and a subsea production control system 26 comprises a communication channel 34 which extends between a communications device 32 proximate the water surface, which has at least one communication interface, and a communications device functionally associated with a wellhead or subsea structure proximate the water bottom, which also has at least one communication interface incorporating power/sensor/control connections 36 from sensors/controls 30 and downhole communications link 22. Because the number of connections 36 is limited, a multiplexer 28 having multiplexer card 42 and interface devices 44 is also functionally coupled to the communication interface on each of the surface and water bottom communication devices, so that at least two remote devices 30A including a sensor and a control can be functionally coupled to a connection 36 via the water bottom multiplexer 28 and communication line 29. At least two corresponding devices including a signal acquisition device and a control signal generating device can also be coupled to the surface multiplexer. |
