The invention relates to a blank which is a one piece blank which is generally rectangular in plan, and has an arrangement of flaps or panels, respectively in an erected container 2 forming a base or bottom, a lid or top, opposite side walls and opposite end walls. The various panels are formed in the blank by hinge or fold lines formed in the material of the blank, and there are also lines or zones of weakness, the blank 1 being formed of a relatively rigid material such as corrugated board, the blank being cut as by being die cut from a sheet of the material. The bottom of the container 2 is formed from flaps 5, 6, each of which has a cut-out 7 of generally trapezoidal form with an inclined boundary 8, the boundaries locking together in a crash lock on erection to form the container 2. The flaps 5, 6 are connected by hinge lines 9 to panels 10, 11 which form opposite side walls 12 of the erected container 2. Each flap 5, 6 has a respective tab 13, 14 hinged to it at a hinge line 15 which on erection are secured as by adhesive to associated tabs 16, 17 of panels 18, 19 forming opposite end walls in the erected container 2. The top or lid of the container 2 is closable on erection by two flaps 20, 21 which are foldable about hinge lines 22 which extend the length of the panels 20, 21 but part of which is formed as a line or zone of weakness as by being formed as a line of perforations 23 which extends to a point intermediate the length of the respective hinge line 22 and then is continued as an inclined line 24 in the panels 10, 11 to intercept the boundary edge of the respective panel at an intermediate position 'X' and then continues to intercept a hole 25 in the panel 19 forming an end of the erected container, the hole 25 in use being a hand hole. At the point of sale, a shelf stacker can separate the top part (lid) 4 of the container 2 from the bottom part or base 12, by gripping the container 2 through the hand hole 25 and applying an upward lifting force with one hand whilst steadying the container with the other. The top part 4 separates from the bottom part 12 along the perforations 23, 24, including at the end along the inclined perforations 45, and can be separated in one action from the base. It will be appreciated that this action also simultaneously removes the gusseted internal end flap 36, 37, 38 and part 43, so that a 'clean' separation line is exposed and hence a 'clean' base 12 is provided for displaying the product for sale. |
