In the transition sections (4), the circular cross section of the end sections change into the U-shaped cross section of the central section. In a similar variant, the wall thickness (D1) of the torsion profile in the circumferential region with the deformations (25) in the transition sections and in the central section (3), exceeds the wall thickness (D2) in the remaining circumferential region. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the corresponding method of manufacture. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# A torsion profile used in automobile construction. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Life of the new torsion profile is markedly increased in comparison with prior art, e.g. as described in e.g. . This results from the design of critically-stressed regions. The wall thickness variations favorably influence stress distribution in the profile. Considerable cost reduction is achieved, by dispensing with a previously-required ball-peening operation. The slightly-increased quantity of material required in the transition sections is negligible.
