PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rehabilitation device and rehabilitation method adapted to various situations.

SOLUTION: The rehabilitation device comprises: a drive control mechanism adapted to apply force that interacts with an object within a volume of at least 30 cm in diameter, in at least three degrees of freedom of motion and preventing substantial motion in any point within the volume, wherein the drive control mechanism is configured to control motion of the object and provides at least one of: assisting motion by the object; resisting against motion by the object; guiding motion by the object; and prompting the object to move.
