A communication system (1) is provided with an in-vehicle device (2) and a portable machine (3). The in-vehicle device is provided with: vehicle-side transmission devices (4, 6) that transmit request signals; a vehicle-side receiver (5) that receives operation signals transmitted from a portable machine-side operation unit (32) of the portable machine, and response signals; and vehicle-side reception control devices (20, 26, S11-S15, S41-S44) that control the vehicle-side receiver such that the operation signals are received as first channel signals, and the response signals are received as second channel signals. The portable machine is provided with: the portable machine-side operation unit; portable machine-side reception devices (31, 34); and portable machine-side transmission devices (33, 30, S21, S22, S51, S52) which transmit the operation signals as the first channel signals, and transmit the response signals as the second channel signals. |
