<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symbol number investigating method for surely investigating the uniqueness of a symbol number in the case of printing a character string of a symbol number, etc., being a consecutive number that changes with regularity of a valuable printed matter. <P>SOLUTION: The method for investigating a printed account number in a printed matter obtained by printing an symbol number being a consecutive number that changes with regularity at a prescribed position prints the print of the symbol number so as to be visually recognizable, invisibly prints a symbol and/or number derived from the visually recognizably printed symbol number according to a fixed rule, reads the visually recognizably printed symbol number in a post-process, and collates the read symbol number with a prerecorded symbol number for confirmation to confirm whether the symbol numbers coincide. In the case of discrepancy in collation for confirmation, the method further reads an invisible symbol and/or number, collates the visually recognizably printed symbol number with the invisibly printed symbol and/or number for confirmation and confirms whether they coincide to thereby investigate the symbol numbers by expanding the goodness of fit of the symbol numbers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
