The present invention aims to provide an apparatus for producing carbonated water and a control method thereof. To this end, the apparatus for producing carbonated water comprises: a water tank, which stores water; a carbon dioxide gas container, in which high-pressure carbon dioxide gas is stored; a carbonated water tank, which stores a carbonated water produced from mixing water supplied by the water tank and carbon dioxide gas supplied by the carbon dioxide gas container; and a control unit which, in the case in which the water in the water tank is supplied to the carbonated water tank, controls the supply of water in the water tank and carbon dioxide gas in the carbon dioxide gas container such that some of the air inside the carbonated water tank is removed before generating the carbonated water.
