A pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of gout comprising the hydrothermal extract of old red Platycodon grandiflorum A. DE. Candolle as an effective ingredient is provided to reduce concentration of uric acid in blood by inhibiting xanthin oxidase activity, and suppress gelatinase B(MMP-9) activity without side effects. The pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of gout comprises the hydrothermal extract of old red Platycodon grandiflorum A. DE. Candolle as an effective ingredient, wherein the hydrothermal extract of old red Platycodon grandiflorum A. DE. Candolle is prepared by extracting old red Platycodon grandiflorum A. DE. Candolle in water at 80 deg.C for 3 hours, and filtering and freeze-drying it. A functional beverage for prevention and treatment of gout comprises the hydrothermal extract of old red Platycodon grandiflorum A. DE. Candolle, at least one subsidiary component selected from vitamin C, taurine, myoinositol, folic acid and patothenic acid, at least one tasty acid selected from citric acid, sodium citrate and oligosaccharide, and at least one preservative selected from sodium benzoate, sodium benzoic acid and ascorbic acid.
