A portable terminal device such as a portable telephone terminal device having a speaker sound hole in a housing side face and also having a main display section on a housing front face, in which sound pressure in the direction in front of the terminal device is increased. Sound produced by a speaker (103) received in the housing (1) is led to a side face of the terminal device by the speaker sound hole (106). A projection (109) is formed in that portion of the housing that is closer to the rear of the housing than the speaker sound hole (106). The projection (109) functions as an acoustic barrier for hindering sound radiated from the speaker sound hole (106) from advancing in the direction behind the terminal device. This increases sound pressure in the direction forward of the terminal device.
