<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system with remarkably high usability, which performs authentication processing with a second authentication medium by copying original authentication information of a first authentication medium on the second authentication medium in the same manner as when the first authentication medium having original authentication information and the second authentication medium which does not have authentication information are simultaneously used. <P>SOLUTION: The system is provided with a first IC card which has a function performing communication with the outside and including key information for authenticating whether the IC card is authentic or not, a second IC card having a function for performing communication with the outside, and a host device having a function for performing communication with the IC card. When the first IC card having original key information and the second IC card which does not have key information are simultaneously used, original key information of the first IC card is copied (transferred) to the second IC card.
