Provided is a safety cap equipped with a child resistant function and capable of responding to a request for a reduction in the diameter of the cap. A screw-type inner cap which is mounted in a removable manner to the mouth of a container has a laterally protruding horizontal section, a vertical section which protrudes upward from the upper surface, and a spring section which has a tip located at a higher position than that of the vertical section and which is provided on the upper surface so as to protrude upward. An outer cap which is combined with the inner cap so as to be rotatable relative thereto has an engagement rib which protrudes from the inner peripheral surface, an engagement protrusion which protrudes downward from the top surface, and a dome-shaped recess which is formed in the top surface. The tip of the spring section makes sliding spring-contact with the inner surface of the recess and, as a result, the outer cap is pressed upward. The engagement rib engages with the horizontal section when the outer cap is rotated in the direction in which the outer cap is closed, and the engagement rib does not engage with the horizontal section when the outer cap is rotated in the direction in which the outer cap is opened. The engagement protrusion engages with the vertical section when the outer cap is rotated, while being pressed down, in the direction in which the outer cap is opened, and the engagement protrusion does not engage with the vertical section when the outer cap is rotated, without being pressed down, in the direction in which the outer cap is opened. |
