EXTRACT OF CASTANOPSIS CUSPIDATA HAVING PROTECTIVE EFFECT ON OXIDATIVE CELL DEATH INDUCED BY HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

The extract of Castanopsis cuspidata is provided to remove ROS(reactive oxygen species), protect cells by inhibiting cell death induced by hydrogen peroxide, promote activities of catalase, ERK(extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase) and NK(natural killer)-kappaB, and improve tissue damage by ROS, so that the extract is useful for treatment of inflammation, aging, cancer, arteriosclerosis and diabetes, and for aging improvement and skin inflammation alleviation. A composition for protecting cells from oxidative cell death comprises 0.01-10 wt.% of the extract of Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii which is prepared by drying and pulverizing the stem of Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii, extracting the pulverized Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii with solvent selected from water, methanol, ethanol, or a mixed solvent thereof, and concentrating the extract under reduced pressure, and is formulated as injection, powder, granule, capsule, tablet, solution, cream, ointment or lotion. Further, the extract is extracted from a stem of the Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii.
